10 Terrible Movies That Should Have Stayed In Development Hell
1. Gemini Man
Gemini Man was one of the most famous movies that had never been made for a long time, but after the collaboration between director Ang Lee and star Will Smith finally got the project over the finishing line, most people were in agreement that it would have been better off remaining in development hell.
The concept was originally sold in 1997, with a revolving door of directors and stars circling the project in the meantime. Gemini Man was stuck in development hell for so long that Clint Eastwood was one of the first names linked to pull double duty in a big budget action movie, and he turns 90 at the end of this month.
Expectations were high with proven talents like Lee and Smith tackling the highest of high concepts, but the Academy Award-winning director seemed more pre-occupied playing with his shiny new filmmaking toys rather than focusing on telling a decent story, with the entirely digital youthful recreation of the former Fresh Prince actually being pretty convincing. At least until it had to move, or talk, or do anything that wasn't remaining completely still.
Gemini Man turned out to be one of the biggest box office bombs of last year, losing $100m for Paramount and wasting a killer concept that had almost unlimited potential as the focus of a game-changing action movie.
