3. Ghost Rider
What The Poster Promised Us: Ghost Rider might not be the best-known character in the Marvel universe but he is quite possibly one of the coolest. Even those not familiar with Ghost Rider lore couldn’t deny that a movie about a dude with a flaming skull riding a pimped-up hell bike with wheels of fire while wielding a mean-looking chain has a certain charm.
Yes, Nicolas Cage’s name is there but he has been known to make the occasional decent movie, even if at this point in his career he was hot on the heels of his disastrous turn in The Wicker Man remake. But we were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the back of such a great poster.
What We Actually Got: Well, firstly the poster lied reneging on its Summer 2006 release and postponing until early 2007 which should’ve been our first warning sign. How wrong we were to put our faith in Mr. Cage who took the chain-smoking, hard drinking antihero and gave him more ‘depth’ … which basically meant hamming it up for two hours straight (as per usual).
