10 Terrible Movies That Would Have Been Much Better Off With A Different Director

1. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The incredibly divisive response to The Last Jedi might have tempered expectations somewhat, but Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was still one of the most hotly-anticipated movies in history, as you would expect from the final installment in an epic saga that had started back in 1977.

Colin Trevorrow most likely would not have been the right man for the job either, but rehiring JJ Abrams just smacked of Disney and Lucasfilm looking to play it as safe as humanly possible. Abrams isn't a bad director by any means, but he is nonetheless a very unoriginal one, and the last thing The Rise of Skywalker needed was to put the shackles on.

Abrams doubled down on action and fan service, but failed to bring anything to the table that audiences hadn't seen countless times before. As the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, the movie needed to be fresh, exciting and dynamic instead of formulaic and packed with references to the franchise's history, and it came as little surprise that it ended up getting the worst reviews that Star Wars had seen since The Phantom Menace.

Brad Bird, Jon Favreau, Guillermo del Toro, Matthew Vaughn, Joss Whedon and Peter Jackson were just some of the names that had been linked to the sequel trilogy at various points, and any one of them would have been a more exciting option that could have at least brought something new to a galaxy far, far away.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
