10 Terrible Movies That Would Have Been Much Better Off With A Different Director
9. Fantastic Four
Following the success of his breakout feature Chronicle, Josh Trank was likely inundated with offers, but for some reason he decided to board the $150m Fantastic Four reboot despite having precisely zero interest in the property, or comic book movies in general.
In a defiant attempt to put his own stamp on the almost ubiquitous genre, Trank inadvertently made one of the worst superhero movies in history, and almost nuked his entire career in the process. The production was dogged by rumors of disagreements between the cast and crew, heavy studio interference in a last-ditch attempt to save the project, and tales of bizarre behavior on the director's part.
Not everybody has to be a fan of the material they're adapting to make a movie a success, but they should at the very least have a passing interest or understanding of it. Trank was ill-equipped to handle the rigors of a big-budget studio blockbuster, and the effects are still being felt half a decade later as the filmmaker tries to rehabilitate both his career and reputation.
