10 Terrible Movies That Would Have Been Much Better Off With A Different Director

5. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

It seems surprising that The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen haven't been rebooted yet given the obvious appeal that comes with pitching a movie to studios as 'the steampunk Avengers'. Maybe it has something to do with what happened the last time, when the tortured production ended more than one career.

Floods destroyed millions of dollars' worth of sets, constant clashes between director Stephen Norrington and star Sean Connery led to both quitting the industry and vowing never to return, the movie disappointed at the box office and was dismissed by critics, before the studio was eventually sued for plagiarism. That's a terrible run of luck for any movie, least of all a big-budget comic book adaptation that was intended to launch a franchise.

Co-star Richard Roxburgh has since admitted that he knew the movie was going to be terrible from his very first day on set, with neither Norrington or Connery willing to compromise in order to benefit the final product. If someone a little less volatile and a lot more accommodating had been on board to direct, then perhaps we would have ended up with a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen that could have lived up to the critical acclaim that greeted the original graphic novel.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
