10 Terrible Movies With Awesome Endings
2. Thor: The Dark World
There's plenty of fan debate about precisely how bad Thor: The Dark World is, but it's near-universally accepted to be one of the weakest Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
From its forgettable villain to its cringe-worthy comic relief, flat visuals, and anonymous direction, it's an also-ran superhero movie sequel that's basically the summation of every complaint that's ever been levelled against the MCU.
But that ending is pure perfection.
Given that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was the sure highlight of the original Thor and proved himself to be a terrifically entertaining villain in the first Avengers, seeing him die at the end of this movie's second act hit hard.
But what a relief it was, then, when the final scene saw Thor (Chris Hemsworth) have a heartfelt reunion with his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) in Asgard.
Or so it seemed, until Thor leaves and it's revealed that Loki, ever the trickster, is still alive and was impersonating Odin all along.
It's a scene that forced the audience to perk up at the end of an otherwise deeply forgettable film and relish the fact that the MCU didn't just jettison one of its best characters after a mere two movies.
