10 Terrible Movies With One Incredible Scene

6. The Pool Fight - The Strangers: Prey At Night

The Strangers: Prey at Night is a more-or-less standalone sequel to 2008's The Strangers, and a film that categorically came at least five years too late.

Even on its own merits, though, Prey at Night largely failed to recapture the gut-wrenching, uneasy suspense of its predecessor, dabbling in only the most overplayed slasher movie tropes.

Its grandest sin might be just how damn forgettable it is, save for a mesmerising third act sequence in which Luke (Lewis Pullman) faces off against two of the Strangers by the trailer park's pool.

After stabbing one Stranger to death, a second, axe-wielding one emerges, and the pair fight all while Bonnie Tyler's iconic "Total Eclipse of the Heart" blares out over the pool's PA system.

The neon-soaked battle is both visually stunning and extremely intense, culminating in poor Luke being stabbed in the pool and left to drown.

Director Johannes Roberts smartly lingers on Luke as he desperately tries to reach the side of the pool while bleeding out, and is just barely saved in time by his sister Kinsey (Bailee Madison).

It's a flash-in-the-pan sequence in a film that's otherwise so thoroughly lacking in artistry and invention.
