10 Terrible Scenes From Awesome Recent Movies

2. "Get Away From Her... You B*tch?" - Alien: Romulus

Alien: Romulus is in many respects a welcome return to form for the hit sci-fi horror franchise, for while lacking the ambition of Ridley Scott's prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, it's a back-to-basics, meat-and-potatoes Alien Movie that gets a lot more right than it doesn't.

But there's one moment that even the most permissive and dew-eyed of fans struggled to swallow down - that cringe-worthy fan-serving line during the movie's intense climax.

When android Andy (David Jonsson) reappears to help protect surrogate sister Rain (Cailee Spaeny) from a Xenomorph, he shoots the alien before quipping "Get away from her... you b*tch."

Obviously, this is a nod to Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) very same one-liner from James Cameron's Aliens, but it feels so toe-curlingly forced here, so desperately pandering to fans of the franchise. "Remember that better thing we did 40 years ago? Please clap."

Had David simply stopped at "get away from her," the line would've worked just fine, but the clunky addition of "you b*tch" makes the scene lurch into genuine "Is this a corny fan film?" territory.

As well-crafted and entertaining as the movie (mostly) is, this scene is painfully emblematic of Hollywood's tiresome, deeply boring fascination with nostalgia and recycling its feted past.
