10 Terrible Superhero Movies With One Redeeming Feature
6. X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Opening Scene Is Incredible
Wolverine fans didn't get to see their favourite mutant anti-hero starring in a definitive solo movie until Logan popped its adamantium claws and raised post-apocalyptic hell last year, but in all fairness to his earlier films, they had their moments.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine had approximately eight minutes of solid gold and they all came during an unforgettable intro sequence. It begins in the mid-19th Century where a young Wolvie and Sabertooth have just witnessed the murder of their father. Logan guts his old man's killer with his bone claws and the pair flee into the night.
From there, the audience is treated to a jump-cut of the duo as adults (played by Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber) followed by an epic montage of the pair fighting in the American Civil War, both World Wars and the Vietnam War, complete with a wonderful tribute to Saving Private Ryan's D-Day landing sequence.
After a strong start - and despite top performances from Schreiber and the ever-reliable Jackman - X-Men Origins dropped the ball at every turn, let down by tonal inconsistencies, a messy script and a sacrilegious depiction of Deadpool.
