10 Terrible Things Everyone Forgets About Beloved Movie Characters
8. Beetlejuice Tried To Marry A Teenage Girl
From one Michael Keaton performance to another, we find our old buddy Beetlejuice. This film is where Tim Burton firmly established his reputation for moribund comedy and modern gothic aesthetic. But as the old saying goes, comedy is the fastest to age, and usually age poorly, as there's a lot that doesn't sit well with modern audiences.
Case in point, the plot point that most people who grew up with this film love to forget ever happened, which coincidentally happened to be the climax of the film. No point beating around the bush, you all know what happens: Beetlejuice tries to marry Winona Ryder's character. Who is a teenager, mind you.
Now, in all fairness, he is the villain, so it's not that terrible of a thing to see the villain doing a naughty. But considering that the shockingly popular animated series painted him as more a trickster hero, and that when people think of this film they don't exactly think of Alec Baldwin (thankfully), it should be remembered that this iconic character is - on no uncertain terms - a pedophile.
And the film finds that hilarious, apparently.
