10 Terribly Cheap Mockbusters That Ripped Off Famous Movies
9. The Day The Earth Stopped
'If only they would stop with these dreadful movies' is a thought that might likely come to mind when seeing movies titled like this one.
As thinly veiled a ripoff title as you can get, The Day the Earth Stopped is quite obviously playing with The Day the Earth Stood Still. Without context and not knowing anything about them, neither movie sounds all that interesting. However, one is significantly better than the other, and it's the one with Keanu Reeves.
Produced by The Asylum, an independent studio that you'll become very familiar with by the end of this list, The Day The Earth Stopped is a 2008 mockbuster that walked a tightrope between ripoff and original.
Directed by C. Thomas Howell (yes, the same actor from E.T. and Red Dawn), the movie depicts the Earth being invaded by 666 robots controlled by aliens, who threaten to destroy the planet unless they are shown proof of the value of humanity. That's quite a bit of pressure for an unsuspecting human race more comfortable at going to war with one another.
There's telepathy, Earthquakes, an ignorant army, and Judd Nelson, just incase you slightly interested in watching it.
