10 Terribly Cheap Mockbusters That Ripped Off Famous Movies

4. Atlantic Rim

If movie titles are anything to go by, then evidently the difference between a mockbuster and a blockbuster is the ocean in which the movie is set. Or at least, that's what the Asylum will have you believe.

Released in the wake of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, a popcorn extravaganza that sees human-piloted giant robots engaging in a Pacific ocean royal rumble against giant alien invaders, Atlantic Rim is practically identical in many ways.

Both movies feature skyscraper-sized machines fighting equally sized monsters to the death, both have soldiers that struggle to follow rules, and both are not as good as the 1989 cult classic Robot Jox.

However, despite having a dismal score of 1.6 on IMDb, you have to give The Asylum a little bit of credit for this effort. The CGI isn't actually terrible to look at, and generally, the movie looks okay aesthetically. So, as long as you can ignore the acting, plot, dialogue, and narrative, then you might actually enjoy it.
