Laurin is a 1989 horror movie written and directed by Bavarian Film Prize's 'Best Rookie Director' Robert Sigl. Starring the likes of Dóra Szinetár, Brigitte Karner and Károly Eperjes, the film is set in a 19th century German village and revolves around the story of a young girl named Laurin who begins to develop a sense for the evil supernatural following the death of her mother.

The setting of a tranquil fishing village out in the countryside, coupled with some seriously effective tension building techniques and legitimately well delivered scares help this stand out as one of German horror's most under-appreciated works over the years.

Laurin was actually first filmed without any sound recorded, leading to some hastily dubbed over dialogue being thrown over the top ahead of its initial release in West Germany in November 1989. And whilst opinion is generally pretty split over whether this helps feed the overall feel of the movie, or whether it's a lazy technical issue that hampers an otherwise great release, there's absolutely no subtracting away from just how breathtakingly chilling Laurin's impressive aesthetics are to sit and watch through.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
