10 Terrifying German Horror Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

3. Schramm (1993)

Quite possibly one of the most disgusting and gruesome horror flicks to have emerged from Europe, Schramm is a 1993 movie written by Jörg Buttgereit and Franz Rodenkirchen, with the former taking the reins as director behind the camera.

The German-speaking stars Florian Koerner von Gustorf as a serial killer known as the 'Lipstick Killer', a grotesque and troubled individual that was supposedly based off of the criminology profiles of Carl Panzram. The movie has become renowned for its use of 16mm film and unique camerawork to give one of the grittiest and most realistic portrayals of a twisted mind at work, with some of the most gory sequences ever put in the world of horror fully on show in Schramm.

The movie revolves around the Lipstick Killer and how he uses the most degrading, bloodthirsty and brutal acts to make up for his lack of a normal social or romantic life. Von Gustorf's character finds himself falling head over heels with a prostitute that lives next door to him, and it is this concoction of emotions that really unleashes the true extent of his terrifying capabilities.

Seriously, this is one disgusting film.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
