10 Terrifying Horror Movies Inspired By H.P. Lovecraft

Created in 2016, The Void was part of an attempt, alongside the sci-fi horror hybrid Harbinger Down, to reintegrate practical effects into indie horror films, and boy does it show.

This flick, which sees a group of unfortunate survivors stuck between crazed cultists and the monstrous creatures emerging from the eponymous empty void, is clearly inspired by both Lovecraft’s original writings and the sticky, gory, and ultra-bleak reimaginings of them which packed multiplexes during the eighties back when Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna were household names.

Well, in horror-literate households, anyway.

The film is well worth a watch for any horror fan, but holds a particular place in the heart of Lovecraft lovers for its effective utilisation of many of the author’s recurring themes.
