10 Terrifying Moments In Comic Book Movies
8. Venom is born - Spider-Man 3
There's a good reason why people laugh at Spider-Man 3 nowadays. From Peter Parker acting like My Chemical Spidey and the arrival of 3 separate villains, this one film ends up jumping the shark more than a few times over. The entire movie is lopsided, but when it comes to Venom, things got a lot darker really fast.
As he grows weary of what the Black Suit has turned him into, Peter goes to St. Patrick's Cathedral to shed himself of the symbiote, only to have it fight back mercilessly. As Peter struggles from on top of the bell tower, Eddie Brock sits and watches before the symbiote starts latching onto his skin.
Once it makes its way off of Peter, Brock soon becomes suffocated by the suit, in what can only be described as being waterboarded with Venom fluid. It sounds terrifying, but Eddie soon grows accustomed to it before the full Venom mug leaps toward the screen.
For as many awesome moments are in this one scene, the campy nature of the rest of the film makes this switch into seriousness seem really out of place. Spider-Man 3 did suffer from having too many cooks in the kitchen behind the scenes, but the idea of having an entire movie with just this version of Venom would make for one of the most gritty comic book movies of all time.
