7. Extremis Demonstration - Iron Man 3
Hot take: the actual Mandarin twist in the middle of Iron Man 3 was not actually all bad. For as much as people may whine about the idea of Trevor being a cheap bait and switch for the audience, Ben Kingsley's comic timing is amazing and works great when playing off of the disgruntled Tony. No, if you wanted to see the real great villain of this movie, you just need to see what Aldrich Kilian does to his cronies.
While the entire motivation behind Kilian is virtually ripped out of the Incredibles' playbook, the extremis technology that he employs is not for the faint of heart.
Rather than show a montage-like scenario with all of the henchmen being given the new generational technology, the shoddy security footage used brings so much more realism to the scene.
It seems like a pretty by-the-numbers villain montage at first, but when you start seeing some of the initial test subjects scream in agony as they spontaneously combust, you start to realize this movie is far darker than something you would normally associate with Disney Enterainment. Iron Man 3 is normally a bit hit and miss with hardcore MCU fans, but this one scene took the more lighthearted superhero villain into an apathetic monster.
