10 Terrifying Sci-Fi Horror Movie Monsters With Very Little Screen Time

7. Katahdin - Prophecy

The Bear Annihilation
Paramount Pictures

John Frankenheimer's creature feature revolves around a monstrous bear, Katahdin, who goes on a killing spree after being infected with toxic waste.

In a nutshell, Prophecy isn't very good. It's slow-paced, badly acted, and contains unintentionally hilarious sequences that diminish potential scares.

With that said, it's hard to fault the design of the mutant grizzly, with Katahdin's melted face and permanently pained expression sure to make viewers feel uneasy. Also, the big, bad bear lets out a haunting roar every time it draws near, which will leave many curling their toes.

To really sell how colossal this creature is, Katahdin was portrayed by 7' 2" stuntman, Kevin Peter Hall, best-known for playing the titular beast in Predator. By using low camera angles, this monstrosity appears almost twice that size.

Even though this towering mutant is a man in a costume, the filmmakers go the extra mile to make it look legit, with the bear rarely seen for more than a second and often obscured by trees and foliage.

Katahdin is so genuinely terrifying, it's a pity it didn't appear in a better movie.
