10 Things About 2000s Movies That Everyone Misses Today

The 2000s were the perfect middle ground needed to create some of the most overtly ridiculous fantasy films ever made.

Special effects were just starting to get good, so filmmakers were ready to take bigger risks when it came to presenting tales of magical worlds.

However, we had yet to reach the stage where this sort of movie was widely accepted. Lord of the Rings had established itself as a fantasy epic, but other than that, they were still seen as schlocky.

And thus, this decade gave us some utterly beautiful examples of pure, unadulterated pantomime.

You had Stardust, a rom-com about a man who falls in love with a living star. There were early adaptations of YA novels like Eragon or Inkheart. Even Harry Potter wasn't immune to schmaltz at the very beginning.

Oh, and the first Twilight picture was 2008.

In the 2000s, fantasy was taken a lot less seriously and that wasn't always a bad thing. It feels like the genre is held to a much higher standard now, which means that its lost some of its sense of fun.

We're not saying all fantasy films should be like Twilight, but one or two wouldn't hurt.
