10 Things About 2000s Movies That Everyone Misses Today

We're not saying that the 2000s invented feminist cinema. That would be ridiculous. However, it did perfect a certain kind of female-centric filmmaking that still holds a very special place in the hearts of many.

The perfect example of this subgenre is the 2001 movie Legally Blonde. Reese Witherspoon stars as Elle Woods, a sorority girl who starts out as your stereotypical "ditzy blonde".

Her mission statement at the start of the film is to impress her ex-boyfriend by obtaining a law degree. However, as the movie progresses, she discovers that she should be doing this for herself rather than some man who broke up with her.

Not only is Elle smart, resourceful, and kind, but she also doesn't give up any of the so-called "girly" things she enjoys. She keeps the pink clothes, the tiny dog, the peroxide blonde hair. She lives the life she wants, not the one others want for her.

Legally Blonde paved the way for other films that celebrated the importance of femininity and showed that it wasn't mutually exclusive to power.

Basically, we're saying we want more legal drams with chihuahuas in tracksuits, please.
