10 Things About 80s Movies Everyone Misses Today

4. Funny Family Comedies

The phrase "family comedy" can strike fear into the hearts of film fans.

When a studio attempts to appeal to everyone, the end result is usually a bland, unfunny product that (ironically) ends up being nobody's favourite.

If Hollywood wants to get this genre right, then it needs to turn the clock back 40 years or so.

The '80s was a great time for comedy in general, with an amazing film, TV, and standup scene to support the industry. When it came to funny films for everyone to enjoy, they had that nailed down too.

Just look at something like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, in which Rick Moranis plays a mad scientist who accidentally miniaturises his children. Well, hopefully it was an accident, otherwise social services will be notified.

You've also got stuff like The Goonies, Adventures in Babysitting, Short Circuit... the list goes on and on. All of these films still hold up when viewed through adult eyes, with nostalgia only being responsible for about 40% of that. Promise.

A return to films like this would leave everybody satisfied, mainly because, today, we get rubbish like Home Sweet Home Alone, and that naff Clifford the Big Red Dog movie that came out a few years ago. Remember that? No? Good.
