9. The Hero Stereotype
Marvel StudiosCaptain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Bruce Banner - what do all of these guys have in common? They're all white, mostly North American males who spend most of their time in and around the United States of America. Granted, we've got the likes of Nick Fury, Natasha Romanoff, Storm and Falcon helping to break that stereotype, but it's the white American male heroes who tend to get the titular movies when it comes to Marvel's cinematic offerings. Someone needs to remind Marvel that they have an abundance of characters who could hold their own in a titular movie that aren't white American men. Black Panther, Captain Britain, Blue Marvel, Sunspot and Sunfire spring to mind as characters who could feasibly be introduced to some of Marvel's current movie properties. We have had a Blade franchise, but that is long dead, and the Fantastic Four reboot does include a black male in its titular line-up, but the current crop of Marvel movies are dominated by the typical heroic stereotype and that needs to change.
