10 Things Batman Vs Superman Won't Do Better Than The Dark Knight Trilogy
3. Gotham City
Nolan's Gotham may not have been as stylised as Tim Burton's extremely Gothic interpretation of the dystopian city but it was arguably far more interesting. To the naked eye, the metropolis appeared to be any other city. In daylight, the wealthy parts of the city looked clean, ordered and prosperous, at night - when the focus shifted to the seedier parts of the city - crime would run rife. Nolan did a great job of creating a city that appeared normal on the surface, but was plagued by corruption, crime and inequality beneath. It's unclear whether Batman V Superman will split its screen time between Metropolis and Gotham City equally, or whether the film will take place on neutral ground, but whichever direction Snyder decides to go in, he's going to find it hard to make a fictional city as well as Nolan did. That's not because Snyder isn't capable of doing so, but if he does decide to have both cities appear in the film in equal measure, he's going to find it hard to establish each sprawling city with enough personality as Nolan did if only a portion of screen time is dedicated to each one.
