10 Things Christopher Nolan Got Wrong About Batman
4. Gotham City
In most comic books, television shows and any other movies bar the Nolanverse films, Gotham City is no less of a character than Batman himself. It's home to towering cathedrals, striking gothic architecture and countless shadowy threats.
It's a living, breathing world with a personality all of its own. Batman Returns director Tim Burton evidentaly had a firmer understanding of this than Christopher Nolan, whose take on Bruce Wayne's home city was simply modern-day Chicago.
Gotham is supposed to be gothic. The clue is in the name, yet in the Dark Knight trilogy, there isn't a gargoyle-adorned cathedral in sight.
Granted, Nolan's Batman movies feature eye-popping cinematography but failing to embrace the city's traditional visual elements was a missed opportunity. A few shots of the Caped Crusader perched on a stone gargoyle wouldn't have hurt the series.
