2. Ridley Scott Wasn't Forced Into Adding The Deckard Voice Over
It's a commonly held misconception that Ridley Scott was forced to add Deckard's voice over narration against his will. While it's certainly true that Scott acknowledges the limitations - and often ineffectiveness - of voice overs, the reality is that he was on board with the narration in Blade Runner from the start and actively working to implement it as best he could. Another mistaken assumption is that Harrison Ford was so against its inclusion that he deliberately delivered the lines as poorly as he could. Again, this is another myth of movie history - as Ford clarified, "I delivered it to the best of my ability, given that I had no input. I never thought they'd use it. But I didn't try and sandbag it. It was simply bad narration." In fact, one of his most hated aspects of the production boiled down to this monologue and his battle to keep it out of the movie - in his view, the dialogue had been written by "clowns".
