3. Blade Runner Also Went By The Names Dangerous Days And Mechanismo
It's perhaps not surprising that the first thing the producers wanted to drop from their adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel was the title. After all, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? hardly rolls off the tongue - surely a catchier title could be found. The original writer to take the helm for the project, Hampton Fancher, initially stuck with the book title but soon came up with a couple of his own, Mechanismo and Dangerous Days. It was the latter which stuck for much of the film's pre-production days, and it has to be said what a generic-sounding title this is. It's difficult to imagine the film as anything other than Blade Runner these days, but believe it or not Ridley Scott wasn't happy with this title and wanted to call it Gotham City instead. To the relief of Batman fans everywhere, Batman creator Bob Kane refused to sell the rights.
