10 Things You Didn't Know About Blade Runner

4. Tryrell Was Originally Supposed To Be A Replicant

The question as to whether or not Deckard is a Replicant is one which has kept fans talking for decades - fueled by the ambiguous ending, in which fellow cop Gaff places an origami unicorn on the table, hinting at the mythical creature which appears in Deckard's dreams, countless "is he or isn't he?" discussions have spawned across the internet. Another intriguing notion which unfortunately didn't make it into the final movie is the idea that Tyrell himself is a Replicant. Scott originally intended the scene in which Batty crushes Tyrell's head with his bare hands to reveal a series of mechanical parts beneath his skull - following this, J. R. would lead him through into an interior chamber at the heart of the pyramid in which the real Tyrell could be seen through a glass window secreted away in a cryogenics chamber. Budgetary restraints meant that this scene was cut from the script before shooting began, but its inclusion would have added another ironic layer to the notion of identity which the movie toys with.
