10 Things You Didn't Know About Goodfellas

1. Robert De Niro Called The Real Henry Hill Every Day To Ask For Advice On His Character

Robert De Niro has been cited multiple times stating that he called Henry Hill multiple times every day while filming to ask for advice in playing his character authentically. De Niro plays Jimmy "The Gent" Conway in the film (based on Jimmy Burke), a mob associate who made his name for being utterly ruthless but mildly compassionate to his victims. Due to the fact that most, if not all of Henry's old mob friends were either incarcerated or dead by the time Scorsese decided to film Goodfellas, Hill was the only accessible, first-hand source of information for the cast. De Niro was meticulous in the research of his character, even asking Hill how Jimmy Burke presented himself, how he held his cigarette and what he wore. If ever you needed an example of the dedication that actors have for their craft, you'd have to look hard to find a better example than this. This list could go on until the end of time, but sadly, that's just not going to happen. Are there any hidden secrets or missed little subtleties that you we think we've missed?
