2. Ray Liotta Listened To FBI Wiretaps Of The Real Henry Hill Every Day
Many attribute the success of Goodfellas down to the fact that the story was not only based very closely on real life events, but one of the characters in the film was still living and not in prison. The real Henry Hill revealed a wealth of information both intentionally and otherwise to the authorities, biographers and interviewers. Hill wasn't always as careful as he thought though, and various FBI wiretaps of Hill's antics were provided to the film's crew for research purposes. To develop a deeper understanding of Hill's life as a gangster, Liotta listened to these tapes every day on his way to set. It's yet another example of how dedicated the cast of Goodfellas were to creating the most believable, authentic mob film that they possibly could, and while Liotta was the man to play Hill on-screen he certainly wasn't the only one to benefit from such a wealth of knowledge.
