10 Things Every Harry Potter Fan Wishes Were In The Movies
3. The Marauders
Cinematically, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is probably the best in the series. But it's absence of the Marauders' backstory was a big disappointment.
The film mentions The Marauder's Map, but it doesn't explain who they are, or why they used the map. It didn't tap into how close the four of them were, or that they all became animagi to protect Lupin from himself. The lack of insight into their friendship makes Pettigrew's betrayal (and Sirius' seeming betrayal) less painful, and it doesn't hit the film audience the way it should.
The trend of leaving out the Marauder's continues through the series as well. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry sees Snape's worst memory, which has to do with the Marauder's torturing him and him in turn taking it out on Lily. The film doesn't show the extent to which this played out, and the emotional toll it took on Harry. He saw the men he admired most in the world being incredibly arrogant and mean, and it shaped his psyche during the entire fifth book.
