3. John Blake Becomes Robin At The End Of The Dark Knight Rises
There was a lot of confusion as to what occurs during the final moments of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. With Bruce Wayne officially retired and living a life of quiet luxury out in Europe with his new squeeze Selina Kyle, the keys to the Batcave are given to his newest friend, cop John Blake, who we discover has been Nolan's version of Robin the whole time - this is revealed in an unsubtle moment where he reveals his first name is actually "Robin." "So, uh, John Blake becomes Robin at the end of the movie, then?"seemed to be most common reaction heard amongst fans when the movie chose to end on a shot of Blake entering the Batcave. But the point here is that Blake is becoming the next incarnation of Batman, one backed up by that key idea inherent to the trilogy that argues "anyone can be Batman" - he's a symbol. The reason everyone seemed a bit confused by this, of course, was because Nolan told us Blake was Robin just moments before. In actuality, Blake's discovery of the Batcave and subsequent ascension on that moving platform was symbolic of him becoming the next guy to take on the role.
