10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About The MCU

7. There Are No Compelling Villains Bar Loki

One of the most recurrent criticisms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe you'll hear concerns its alleged villain problem. Many have accused it of failing to introduce a compelling big bad since Loki back in Phase One.

Although Tom Hiddleston's mischievous Asgardian set the bar too high for the likes of Ultron, Darren Cross, Malekith and Ronan the Accuser, the MCU had memorable baddies before Loki stole the show in Avengers and has introduced more since.

Hugo Weaving brought unsettling menace to the Red Skull, and there was emotion in the conflict between Jeff Bridges's Obadiah Stane and Tony Stark because a deep connection between the characters was established early on.

To say Marvel has introduced no compelling villains since Loki is also folly. Just recently, Michael Keaton's Vulture played an emotional tug-of-war with the audience in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Cate Blanchett's Hela showed off her impressive screen present in Thor: Ragnarok.

Moreover, the best may be yet to come. Thanos will take centre stage in Avengers: Infinity War and is certain to be the greatest threat the heroes have ever faced.
