10 Things To Expect From The Hunger Games: Mockingjay
2. Less Of Peeta
At the close of Catching Fire Peeta is captured by the Capitol as Katniss is saved by the rebels. As Mockingjay is told from Katniss' first-person perspective, this means that for the large amount of time that Peeta has been taken captive we do not see him. We have glimpses of him and, sure, Katniss thinks about him a whole lot, but the film version would definitely benefit from changing up this absence. The film gives the opportunity to not be restricted by Katniss' point-of-view, so it would benefit from potentially having some scenes exclusively following Peeta's journey whilst he's in the Capitol. As a character who was not in the book has been cast (the elusive Antonius) it seems possible that this will be the case, otherwise fans of the series will definitely feel the lack of the adorable Josh Hutcherson. Even when Peeta returns to the action, he is greatly changed and the dynamic between him and Katniss is worlds apart from what the audience will be used to. Peeta generally acts as Katniss' crutch in the other two books and films, and when the going gets tough, Katniss crawls into bed with Peeta and they have a cuddle. Don't get me wrong, this sounds pretty nice, however without Peeta's support Katniss loses some of her stoic strength as the hero figure of the novels. How the filmmakers will approach this is difficult to predict as, whilst seeing a hero in a weak state is good for the crest and swell of a plotline, it will be difficult to see Katniss, who has always been a fairly dependable hero, in such a state.
