10 Things Future Batman Movies Must Do
4. Introduce Other Members Of The Bat-family
For decades now, Batman has had help in his war on crime. Not just from multiple Robins, but from others. Former Boy Wonder Dick Grayson took on the mantle of Nightwing after he left Batman's side, and has played a pivotal role in numerous situations since. Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, went from being Batgirl, to helping Batman from her wheelchair as Oracle, and returned to the Batgirl role again when DC launched its New 52 line of comics.
Bruce's son Damian has also put time in as Robin, bringing a whole new dynamic to the Batman world: readers saw the Dark Knight evolve into a father, which brought some much-needed freshness to the character.
Rumours abounded that Jena Malone would appear in Batman V Superman as either Carrie Kelley or (more likely) Barbara Gordon. While it was recently revealed that her role had been cut from the theatrical version, the possible presence of a character so far missing from the live-action adaptations suggested the Bat-family may be bigger this time around. We know we'll see Robin in some form, whether Snyder has filmed flashbacks or we simply see the graffiti-coated costume from the trailer. In a post-Avengers world, audiences are more used to seeing multiple heroes on-screen together, and featuring an extended roster of Bat-characters would be much more digestible to modern cinemagoers than it would ten years ago.
Introducing the Bat-family would challenge the notion that Batman operates alone, and help to expand his world. From a commercial perspective, introducing characters like Nightwing and Batgirl could lead to spin-offs, giving Warner Bros. more licenses to play with.
