10 Things Future Batman Movies Must Do
5. Add More Fantastical Elements
Thankfully, from what we've seen of Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad, future Dark Knight films will feature more fantastical storylines than before.
Obviously, having Batman interact with Superman, Wonder Woman, and Doomsday is way beyond the more 'realistic' action we've seen, but this should be carried over into the character's solo adventures too.
For example, if R'as al Ghul is used again, could we get a more literal version of him? Nolan did a great job with the character in Batman Begins, and the use of a metaphorical Lazarus Pit in The Dark Knight Rises was smart, but so many excellent stories have been based around this villain in the comics, animated series, and video games, and could work just as well on the big screen.
Batman V Superman could be a major help in this department, as it will show a different side to the Dark Knight than cinema audiences have seen: the man who can use his supreme intelligence and fighting expertise to take on godly beings and survive. This paves the way for all kinds of possibilities, but doesn't mean that every Batman film has to involve such 'out there' ideas far from it. There's no reason why he can't occasionally encounter strange enemies or events, and have to rationalise them.
Again, this is vital to allow DC and Warner Bros. to give audiences the same excitement as Marvel's movies. Batman is a totally different character to Iron Man etc., but now is absolutely the right time to give audiences a taste of his more superheroic exploits. In past comic-book arcs, Batman has faced Darkseid (pretty much the most powerful, evil force in the universe), travelled through time, and battled all manner of freaks like Clayface and Man-Bat. Not everyone enjoyed Nolan's bleak, 'grounded' take on the Dark Knight, and a more fantastical edge would help future filmmakers appeal to a wider audience.
