1. Cast Scott Eastwood As Roland Deschain, Of Course
A lot of names have been thrown around with regards to who should play The Dark Tower's stoic protagonist - the last gunslinger, Roland Deschain. At one time, Javier Bardem was in talks to play the main character of Stephen King's fantasy saga, and whilst he would have been a good choice, there is one actor - a relative unknown, all things considered - who appears quite literally to have been born to play the role. Scott Eastwood, the son of iconic actor Clint Eastwood, is - from a physically perspective, at least - the most suitable person to take on the role of Roland Deschain. Stephen King based Roland on Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name character from Sergio Leone's spaghetti western films, of course, and - at one time - Clint Eastwood would have been the perfect choice for Roland. Now he's 85, though, and far too old to play the gunslinger. But Scott, who shares an immense likeness with his dad, is 29-years-old: with the right amount of stubble, he more than looks the part of Roland - he is Roland. Granted, Eastwood is a tad younger than the Roland of the novels and he doesn't have the same box office draw as somebody like Javier Bardem. But that's not to say that he isn't a talented actor capable of bringing the appropriate levels of grit, sardonic humour and darkness to Roland. And also: how great would it be to have an Eastwood playing Roland? It's meant to be! Like this article? Agree or disagree with what has been said here?
