10 Things Marvel Fans Don't Want To Accept About Sony's Marvel Universe

9. The SPUMC Doesn't Need Spider-Man

Spider-Man 3 Venom
Marvel Comics

As noted, it would have been great seeing Venom meet Spider-Man in his movie, especially as it would have better explained the character's motivations and abilities. However, for the most part, the wall-crawler's villains have all undergone their respective transformations with absolutely no involvement from Peter Parker's heroic alter-ego.

Venom is very much the exception to the rule, because the likes of Morbius the Living Vampire, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, the Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus all became bad guys before they just so happened to cross paths with Spider-Man (becoming one of his foes in the process).

Morbius and Kraven are among the characters with movies in the works, and while they obviously need someone to fight, that doesn't have to be Spider-Man. An argument could be made that those projects would benefit from the web-slinger showing up, and that's a compelling point, but he's by no means a necessity, and these spinoffs can survive without him.

That's not a popular opinion, but it's a factual one because despite Venom's (many) faults, it was still a massive hit without so much as a hint of Spidey.
