10 Things Movies Tell You Are Normal (But Totally Aren't)

8. Rom-Com Stalking

After watching endless Rom-Coms with the perfect narrative and fairytale ending, it is no wonder that the art of romance is taught and learnt from what we see on-screen. However... The one thing which any person would never want to be on the receiving end of is.... The Romantic STALKER!!! Cringe!! In some films, like There's Something About Mary (1998), where the stalker ends up getting together with his 'victim', it isn't seen as taboo as we enjoy the journey of the stalker and foolishly find his antics 'romantic'. On the other hand, a film which near enough portrays the discomfort in embarrassingly stalkerish behaviour is All About Steve (2009). Sandra Bullock plays awkward social outcast Mary Horowitz who decides to hunt down Steve Muller played by Bradley Cooper (I guess I can't blame her) after one date they had together which came to an abrupt end. To be honest, Bullock's cringe-worthy portrayal of Mary was doomed from the start and was impossible to be understood as romantic. In real life stalking is not the answer... but a restraining order IS if you feel inclined to act in such a freakish manner...

As a one-of-a-kind twenty-something film fanatic and culture vulture... I have a 1st Class Honours degree in English Literature with Film Studies & Media Cultures. Along with recently completing MA by Research in Film Studies, I aspire to be a film critic and yearn for the opportunity to roll around on the red carpet (with or without Christian Bale in his Batsuit). Always openly embracing films of all genres and nations, although anything Studio Ghibli related will always have a place in my heart. Believes normality is overrated!
