When we first learnt about the concept of Marvel's Phases the general idea seemed each one would be a run of stand-alone movies, tied together at the end with an Avengers team-up. That, however, no longer seems to be the case. Obviously with the announcement that Captain America: Civil War will feature Tony Stark (and many more heroes it seems) that solo movie structure is no longer the case, but, in an auxiliary announcement that kinda gets lost in all the excitement, Avengers: Age Of Ultron is also now not the end of Phase 2. For a long time it was assumed Ant-Man would be the first to kick off Phase 3, but it's now the final film of Phase 2, serving as a light breather after what looks like the epic events of Age Of Ultron. If we were being cynical we'd suggest that it shows a slight confusion over what to do with the troubled production, but was probably done just because narrative-wise Peyton Reed's film has little link to the bigger events we're heading into. The whole Phase concept is more of a marketing tool than anything else - there's only a vague unity between the films in any particular block - so it doesn't make much difference, but means Scott Lang will be lumped in with the run of movies we're in now, rather than the newly announced lot.
