10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel Phase 3

4. They're Making Up For The Lack Of X-Men

The one big question looming over the MCU is whether Spider-Man will ever pop by. Sony aren't having the best success with The Amazing Spider-Man, so the potential of them loaning the web-crawler out to Marvel has become a distinct possibility in recent months. But while all this has been going on, a property just as integral to the Marvel continuity as Spidey remains firmly out of the studio's grasp. X-Men hasn't had a straight up reboot since it first started back in 2000 and while it's not as utterly dominant as the MCU, 20th Century Fox's franchise continues to chug along nicely. This obviously creates a minor thorn in Marvel's side; the odds of them ever getting their hands on Wolverine and co. (as well as The Fantastic Four, who Fox also own) are distinctly low, putting characters and entire stories (who wouldn't like to see House Of M on the big screen) out of their reach. As evidenced by the presence of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the studio is finding ways around this, and the Phase 3 announcement has hinted how they plan to deal with it in the long term. When most people saw Inhumans was an upcoming movie from Marvel, they probably just shrugged and accepted it - if Guardians was good this random property probably will be too - although a lot more may be riding on this particular team. Originally appearing in Fantastic Four, the Inhumans are more fantastical than the X-Men, but as evolutionary advanced beings they can fill a similar story gap.
