10 Things You Need To Know About The New Harry Potter Film

7. The Director: David Yates

There was a lot of buzz about who would direct this film, with Oscar winner and Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron voicing his interest in the project. (He went on record saying that although he chose to leave the Harry Potter franchise after just one film, he would be very interested in taking on the challenge of this new series.) Ultimately, they did decide to go with a director with a certain amount of experience in the wizarding world - just not Cuaron. Taking on the job is David Yates, a man well-versed in the Harry Potter universe, having directed the last four films of the franchise. Yates was not a director that many would have thought on the producer's radar for the original Harry Potter series - he was relatively inexperienced with films, having made his mark as a director of television shows, and hadn't ever been in charge of a major blockbuster like the Harry Potter movies. Now that he's done four of them (all of them critically well-received box office hits), we imagine that Warner Brothers is feeling a little bit more confident in their decision to have him behind the camera.
