With Orci out of the picture the last couple of weeks have been a bit of a mad dash for Paramount, who needed to quickly find somebody to take the director's chair and reassure investors and audiences alike. Plus they needed to get somebody who'd actually do a good job, not just keep the seat warm so nobody panicked. In the end, it looks like they've done a pretty good job. Before they settled on one director there was a bunch of different rumours flying about, though, with a short list of potential filmmakers eventually leaking. That list included Moon and Source Code's Duncan Jones, Norwegian director of The Imitation Game Morten Tyldum, Safe House's Daniel Espinosa, and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt. Not on that list was the bookie's favourite to replace Orci: Edgar Wright. The fan-favourite director of the Cornetto Trilogy (with, not-so-coincidentally, Star Trek cast member Simon Pegg) and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World recently had trouble with studio interference on Marvel movie Ant Man, which he left because of, so maybe it wasn't to be.
