10 Things You Need To Know About Terminator: Genisys

8. There Are Changes In The Timeline

First off, it should come as no surprise (based on the trailer and media coverage) that Genisys is covering many of the same events seen in earlier films. That's the sort of fun you can have with time travel after all. So when Kyle Reese arrives back in the 80s to protect Sarah Connor in Genisys, he finds instead that she is now protecting him. Yes, the timeline in Terminator: Genisys has changed considerably. The threat to Connor (i.e. the T-800 in the original film) has already been taken care of. And this won't be the only change. While the "beginning" of the film, set in the future, appears to be the same as the original Terminator film, everything past that is open to manipulation. Or, technically, everything before that. So it starts with John Connor sending Kyle Reese back in time to protect his mother, knowing that the man would become his father in the process. Once in the past, however, all bets are off this time. Making this a reboot but not. Sarah appears to already be highly trained in weapons combat and pursuit driving. More akin to the Sarah Connor of T2. The "good guy" T-800 is already in the picture as well. How? That remains to be seen.
