10 Things You Need To Know About Tim Burton's Superman Lives
7. Some Versions Involved Superman's Baby
You can see the embryonic beginnings of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns even as early as the very first Superman V: Reborn script, again based loosely on The Death Of Superman, which opened with an insecure Clark Kent unable to admit his feelings for the tragically human Lois Lane.
Just when he's about to proclaim his love for her (and reveal his secret identity), Doomsday shows up and kills him. In this version of the film, Superman's soul would've entered Lois's body after his death, giving birth to his child just a few days later, with the kid growing into the body of a 21-year-old man within the space of three weeks to take the part of the reborn Superman. And then Lois dies. Yeah.
The final draft, by Dan Gilroy, again involved Lois Lane pregnant by Superman, albeit in a much more traditional, less insane manner. Which is about where Superman Returns picked up, a good decade or so later. Not that the pair could conceivably have unprotected sex, as this scene from Mallrats explains.
