10 Things You Need To Know About Tim Burton's Superman Lives

8. It Was The Death And Return Of Superman

Death Of Superman
DC Comics

From the looks of things the Man Of Steel could've used all the help he could get in Burton's film, with the majority of the draft scripts (of which there were numerous) mainly drawing upon the recent Death Of Superman storyline. Yep, in a cynical attempt to boost sales...erm, to tell an interesting, bold new story, DC killed off their biggest character for a few months in the nineties.

Obviously he came back eventually, with more readers than ever jumping on board with the resurrected Superman. The media circus surrounding the event was unprecedented, and Warner Bros obviously wanted to ride that wave of interest into making Superman Lives an even bigger deal than a Superman movie already would be.

So, Burton's film would almost certainly have involved Doomsday, the alien killing machine designed specifically to murder Superman with his bare hands. i.e. - exactly what happened in Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
