10 Things You Need To Know About X-Men: Apocalypse

3. It'll Be Set In The '80s

Whilst Days of Future Past made perfect use of its '70s setting, depicting America at a time of scandal and paranoia, it's assumed that Apocalypse will move the franchise into the '80s, whereupon Professor X and Magneto will have to face the likes of strobe lighting and Jon Bon Jovi (well, probably not, but imagine!). An '80s setting opens up a whole new dimension for the design team, of course: lots of tight trousers, anyone? Simon Kinberg has discussed his preference for the setting of the film, and has stated that his script denotes the year as "1983," which means that this time frame is pretty much confirmed as far as we can tell - given that we're looking to see younger versions of Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey, too, it also makes sense from a narrative perspective, too. For reference purposes, 1983 is 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past.
