10 Things Star Wars Fans Don't Want To Accept About The Movies

9. The Last Jedi Was A Great Movie (Even If It Wasn't A Great Star Wars One)

Rian Johnson is a terrific filmmaker (look no further than Looper and Knives Out for proof of that), and considering the fact he's a longtime Star Wars fan, it's hard to understand why he chose to subvert everyone's expectations the way he did with The Last Jedi.

It feels like the director set out on a mission to undo everything J.J. Abrams has introduced in The Force Awakens, whether it was killing off Supreme Leader Snoke before his widely speculated "true identity" could be revealed, revealing that Rey's parents were nobodies, or portraying Luke Skywalker as anything but a hero for the most part.

Despite widespread critical acclaim, the response online didn't appear to be anywhere near as positive, and so it's no wonder Lucasfilm tasked Abrams with essentially undoing all of Johnson's creative decisions, a move which resulted in a disastrously messy final chapter in the Skywalker Saga.

However, regardless of how much blame Johnson deserves for all that, there's no getting around the fact The Last Jedi is a great movie (no matter how much some claim it was a total mess). It may not be the Star Wars adventure fans wanted, but it's a visual masterpiece, delivers a well-told story - aside from the obvious pitfalls - and is a fun time...it's just a shame it wasn't a great Star Wars movie too.
