10 Things That Deserve Great Movie Adaptations
9. Have A Nice Day: A Tale Of Blood And Sweatsocks
There are currently biopics in the works for Vince McMahon, Mae Young, and even Paige, yet the most interesting pro wrestling story of all time has already been written. That story belongs to Mick Foley, the loveable lunatic behind Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love. His 1999 autobiography, Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks, is a funny, moving and engaging tale of a man who gave his all to become one of the unlikeliest WWE World Champions of all time.
Mick's journey, from enthusiastic backyard wrestler to hardcore legend, could be presented in two ways. Given Mick's affable persona and penchant for comedy, an overblown biopic parody in the style of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story could work well.
On the other hand, Foley has been through so many gruelling matches and brutal injuries that a more serious study of the man feels deserved. His devastating I Quit match with The Rock at the 1999 Royal Rumble was already documented in the brilliant documentary Beyond the Mat, and could serve as a centrepiece of the film.
However it is approached, Mick's story is far too interesting, with far too many dramatic highlights, to remain unadapted. As for who should play him? You could do worse than Reaper's Tyler Labine, a husky, gregarious guy who can bring the intensity when it is required.
