10 Things That Deserve Great Movie Adaptations
8. ReBoot
ReBoot was a show truly ahead of its time. First broadcast in 1994, it told the tale of a group of guardians living inside a computer system, rendered in endearingly clunky '90s CGI.
It ran for four seasons, with the last released in 2001 as two television films. While it won awards for its technical achievements, it never reached the audience it deserved, and was constantly plagued with controversy over its content. Continuations of the series, including a film trilogy, never materialised, though there have been rumblings of a new series since 2013.
ReBoot is ripe for a big screen adaptation. Done right, it would be like a wonderful mash-up of Wreck It Ralph and The Matrix. With the characters constantly plunged into different games, there would be enough action to keep children entertained, while adults would no doubt enjoy the nostalgia factor, as well as the more risqué content the series was known for.
A condensed version of the original story - Bob and his companions protecting their world from the viruses Megabyte and Hexadecimal, all the while having to deal with interference from "the user" - would make a great 90 minute animated movie. With today's CGI and up-to-date references, it would introduce ReBoot to a whole new generation, as well as giving fans of the original series the fitting finale they never got.
