10 Things The Dark Tower Movie Should Have Done Differently

7. Television Instead Of Cinema

The Dark Tower has done nothing to prove the naysayers who dubbed it unfilmable wrong, but it might have won some of them over if Sony had chosen the right medium.

A straight adaptation of the saga could have worked if the studio had gone down the big-budget TV series avenue. Many of the issues which caused the Tower to topple wouldn't have existed if the project was in the hands of a heavy hitter like HBO.

One season per novel with a Game of Thrones or Westworld-esque budget would have sufficed. The series' length, depth and breadth wouldn't have been a problem with almost 100 hours of runtime to soak it up.

No concessions or streamlining would be required and the creative team wouldn't be faced with the conundrum of how to cram eight weighty tomes into limited screen time.

Sony's original vision for The Dark Tower was a movie series backed by canon TV shows. Whether the small-screen offshoots are still happening is up in the air, but if the powers that be had selected television in the first place, maybe the franchise's future wouldn't be so clouded.
